Goon Justice: reddit Removes Jailbait

One may not expect it, but the forumgoers at Something Awful absolutely love to flush out and shame pedophiles.

Now imagine everyone asking for pics for approximately one mile below

On occasion, Lowtax (SA’s administrator) would happen across some horrid website filled with deplorable people, and direct his goony followers to destroy it in one way or another, and more often than not this would result in hundreds of reports to the FBI or other investigatory authority. When those with pedophilic tendencies were found at SA, they’d be shamed, shunned, and permanently banned. Goons hate pedos.

It’s not surprising then that the SA forums were the source of  reports to numerous media outlets regarding reddit’s infamous /r/jailbait section, which has since been shut down. I pestered one of those responsible until he agreed to let me hurl questions at him.

Killhamster: I’ll be honest, I never read the thread from which this came, even though I probably should and given the subjects involved, I’d probably enjoy it quite a bit. How did the reddit thing come up there and what kind of reactions did people have before you posted the GBS thread?

BulletRiddled: We’d been talking about the jailbait section off and on throughout the entire thread (Post Your Favorite Internet Trainwrecks), and it’s come up in every previous iteration of it, so it’s not like it was a new thing for us. It’s been a source of mockery for us for quite a while, especially watching them get all huffy trying to defend it whenever someone wanders in and calls them a bunch of perverts.

What happened in this specific case was that there had been some drama between the Reddit jailbait mods, and the whole section was temporarily closed down. All of the sudden Reddit was full of people whining about it, mostly as a freedom of speech issue, and I started writing up a post for the PYF thread with some of the more ridiculous quotes I could find. While I was digging up some dirt I accidentally came across some underage porn that some of the more prominent jailbait defenders had been trading in other sections of the site. I brought up my find in the PYF thread and was told to contact the authorities, which I did. People weren’t really surprised, it was more of a “oh god, here we go again” thing. It had been less than a month since the last time any of us had contacted the FBI over someone. In that case, it was a statistics obsessed rapist who lived in a white windowless van, who someone reported for writing about bringing a minor across state lines in order to have sex with her.

Anyway, the conversation in the PYF thread turned to how Fox News always blows things like nude pictures on Wikipedia out of proportion, while stuff like r/jailbait gets a free pass, despite being exactly what they were vilifying Wikipedia for being. A goon by the name of Warheart525 suggested that we send out a few emails to some of the larger media outlets and see if we could actually get them to pick the story up. A few of us did, and then promptly forgot about it the moment the next batch of crazies rolled around. We probably would have organized a real campaign if we’d known someone was actually going to listen.

KH: reddit is pretty much sub-4chan on the humor scale I just made up in my mind. Did they really think their terrible MSPaints of Anderson Cooper would somehow affect his integrity or be seen as a valid reaction to his coverage?

BR: I really have no idea. That’s the entire reason I posted the GBS thread in the first place, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the fuck they were trying to accomplish. I’ve seen a LOT of stupid things on the internet, but this was a new one on me. I still have no idea what point they’re trying to make.

KH: You mentioned encountering actual illegal content there and reporting it to the proper authorities. To your knowledge, has anything come of this? Was the offending sub-reddit or post at least removed or do the reddit admins pretty much not care? [note: this question was posed before reddit removed the /r/jailbait forum.]

BR: I haven’t gone back to check if it’s still there, but from what I’ve seen from previous examples of this happening, the admins probably just removed the link to the content and gave the poster a slap on the wrist. There are still tons of archived comments all around Reddit for photo archives that no longer exist that show people mentioning finding underage nude photos in them, and the moderators simply asking whoever posted it to remove the offending photo. The photo gets removed, and everything continues as if nothing happened.

KH: While you were having dinner in Canada-land, reddit admins took down the /r/jailbait subreddit, stating that it threatened “the structural integrity of the greater reddit community.” Do you feel like you’ll be a focal point of the collective anger this time since you posted up the GBS thread that led to their downfall? Violentacrez in particular must be fuming since his playground was taken away from him. Do creepy old men scare you?

BR: No, fortunately. They’re smart enough to realize it was a collective goon effort that we’ve been working on for years, although they seem to think we’ve orchestrated a massive conspiracy to bring about their downfall for… some reason they’re still working out. A few weeks ago the Bitcoin nuts came to the conclusion that we’re actually Freemasons who artificially control the price of the Bitcoin market (which we are), so I hope we end up getting a similar legend over this. Maybe we can be the Knights Templar this time around.

They really don’t seem to know who to be angry about, and they’re all so divided and paranoid at this point that they’re basically tearing themselves apart over it. It’s our fault, and it’s Anderson Cooper’s fault, and it’s Gawker’s fault, and most of all it’s Advanced Publication’s fault for bowing to the negative media pressure from their competitors. If they ever get around to settling just who’s fault it is (besides their own, obviously) they might be able to do something about what happened, but I’m not holding my breath.

Creepy old pedos don’t scare me, no. They get off on power and domination, and we just destroyed them.

It'd be like a Manowar album or something

KH: Now that this beast has been slain, are you planning to go to Disney World? Or is this like a hydra, where we have to start chopping off heads and burning things? That would make a pretty bitchin’ power metal album cover, don’t you think?

BR: There’s still a lot of jailbait stuff up on Reddit, a lot of it even worse than the section we got shut down, so hopefully this isn’t the end of it. I’m still in contact with media people who want to take it even further, so we’ll see what happens now that we’ve drawn a little blood. Whatever happens next, it’ll probably be really funny.

Also, I would totally buy that album based on the cover alone. On vinyl, so I could hang it on my wall.

KH: While I’m at it, do you think I’ve said “creepy” too much or not enough?

BR: I’ve been trying to avoid using that word so much myself, but there’s really no other word that works. This shit is creepy.

KH: The redactors keep framing this as a free speech issue, even though it’s a privately run website owned by a corporation. I have a little experience with this, minus the corporation. Is a laissez-faire attitude towards moderation awful or awful?

BR: I keep getting banned for bringing up the hypocrisy of the free speech thing, so I’m gonna have to go with awful (the first one). Most of the jailbait defenders I’ve talked to from Reddit, including the mods, seem to think that free speech means the freedom from hearing a dissenting opinion. The hugbox mentality is destroying Reddit, so it’ll be interesting to see if they keep clamping down on this stuff and drive out the regulars, or let them be and let them completely destroy their own site.

KH: I briefly visited your website earlier today in between not working and yospostin. What I found there was a giant cheeseburger, and, more importantly, a game or something based on the failed Malatora micro nation. Did you, like my weird Irish friend, troll the ever-loving piss out of some dragon-furry-airplane-fuckers?

BR: Yes I did. I bought the forum accounts for Tanya (Malatoran multi-dicked mind-controlling rapewolf woman) and DancingDongs (our insider spy who gave us all the best info). Most importantly, I created Malatora Tower Defense, an unwinnable, barely playable strategy game based around fighting off the entire planet using masturbating multi-dicked dragons and cock-tenticle rapewolfs. The thread was goldmined before I got to hear what they thought of my tribute.

KH: Does milk really come in bags up there?

BR: That is an offensive and harmful stereotype. Our milk comes in perfectly ordinary cartons, delivered by a perfectly ordinary milkman, riding a perfectly ordinary moose.

KH: That about wraps it up. If you’d like any compensation for your time, I’m sure I can pay you sufficiently with some stolen Bitcoins. Sound good?

BR: Bitcoins are dead, I only deal in Cosbycoins now. Cosby coins are going zip zap zoopity bap!
