For those of you who follow Bitcoin for the laughs rather than to make a profit, surely you’re aware of the recent Bitcoin convention (dubbed Bitcon by its promoter, Bruce from OnlyOneTV) and the horrors that have slowly been revealed as more and more people look more closely at Bruce and his cohorts.
The convention itself was considered a rousing success by its attendees and an abject failure by normal human beings. Highlights included creepy unwashed nerds hitting on the one attractive woman who surely got lost on her way to a better event, a man walking in off the street and stealing several laptop computers, and a bunch of guys standing around awkwardly in a small room. All this and more was broadcast across the internet live on OnlyOneTV, where comedian Bill Cosby made a surprise appearance.
Despite the obvious signs that everything about the “convention” was terrible idea and should never be repeated, Bruce has big plans for Bitcon. He has envisioned a worldwide series of conventions, so that visionaries and true believers from around the world can speculate on prices and sell each other various useless items for USD converted to BTC (plus a little extra for the service fees). The most notable of Bruces planned locations is Pattaya, Thailand, which “has derived part of its reputation as a tourist destination due to the sex industry and the resulting nightlife, and in many ways the city has become what it is now because of this. Prostitution in Thailand is technically illegal but reality shows that it is tolerated as is the case for Pattaya where it is found in certain areas with vast numbers of host bars, gogo bars, massage parlours, saunas, and hourly hotels, serving foreign tourists as well as locals. This is prevalent in the Walking Street as well as other areas around the city. Efforts have of late been made to clean up the city’s image.” (thanks to That Other Wiki.)
Bruce maintains that the city was chosen for other reasons and that he and his followers have no ulterior motives. This, however, seems to be an unlikely cover story, as goons uncovered more and more disturbing posts and information. First it must be established that Bruce is a Reddit-level misogynist:
Then we find that he’s also interested in Pattaya for more than libertarian internet money conventions:
The idea of a mimimum fee for a boy….. PLUS tip…. is a great thought — one I agree with wholeheartedly.
The problem is one of economics though.
They are far too needy to risk losing a single customer.
Even if they have to be abused for only 500 baht, they are really not in an economic position to refuse…
Maybe I understand more because I’ve been there myself before….. or pretty close to it.
I learned very quickly the importance of the THREE-PRONGED attack…. to the situation.
(1) Watch them on stage. Pay close attention to how they dance, and more importantly, how they look at you. Someone told me, “You don’t pick the boy. HE picks YOU.” It will tell you lots about how things will go later.
(2) Talk to the mama-son. Tell “her” EXACTLY what you’d like to do. EXACTLY what you like, and don’t like…. She will not lead you wrong.
(3) Sit and talk with the boy for a long time before leaving. Talk about everything. If he’s not into you, as much as you are into him,…. It’s probably not going to be the best match.
I had AMAZING fun…. I broke at least two hearts… And had mine broken at least a bit…
Sharing LOVE is what it’s all about. There is no limit to how much love you can share. And money represents human energy. You are extremely honored to have it…. so that you can GIVE it….
As I said, the only reason I do is… that I view their “tip” as a “love offering” — a donation to their well-being…. and a symbil of hope for a better life in the future. ….that is given in a spirit of Love. Not abuse.
It’s certainly not to impress anyone, since I wouldn’t normally tell anyone how much I give… And I think I’ll rarely ever see the same boy twice.
I’m tremendously grateful to God that I am able to be generous…. in both LOVE and money…
Along with this, we also find him discussing male prostitutes in NYC, using his skype username as a handle:
As increasing amounts of posts such as these were revealed, a pattern emerged: Bitcoin’s most visible and most vocal supporter seems quite infatuated with some quite unsavory things, and even worse: he cannot shut up about it. We hope to read another update to the NPR story in which we find out which major Bitcoin exchange is shut down due to aiding and abetting the solicitation of a minor.
