Lulzsec Not-Leader Arrested

“I’ve seen Ryan. He's this pasty fluffy British kid with a buzz cut, a double chin, and a bag of cookies in his hand laughing about how awesome he thinks he is,” Editor's note: This is not actually Cleary, merely an artist's depiction.

Recently, we outlined the split between Anonops users and admins, pointing out one Ryan Cleary as the instigator. Today, he was arrested for DDoSing high-profile government websites and possible ties to the now-infamous Lulzsec hacker collective. While there’s no evidence at the moment that directly associates Cleary with Lulzsec, he does (did?) host their IRC server and one of his co-admins was alleged to be involved with the hacker group. Meanwhile, Lulzsec denied his role as a leader.

In all likelihood, the arrests are just tangentially-related to Lulzsec activities, as Cleary has been involved in other high- and low-profile attacks, especially the ongoing campaign against Sony and its Playstation Network. The US FBI is involved, and as such, the DoJ may have once again, found someone to make an example of as they are often wont to do.
