I’m sure you still remember Kai, the homeless hitchhiker with a hatchet who saved a woman from some racist who claimed to be Jesus. After the viral video of Kai having an interview with KMPH FOX 26 and his catchphrase “smash Smash SMASH!”, Kai basically disappeared. The hero faded with the shadows, that is unril KMPH went and looked for Kai and found him to do another exclusive interview.
Finding a guy like Kai was no simple task, and it took about a week to find him. As reporter, Jessob Reisbeck, told Mashable, “He’s impossible to get ahold of because he has no phone and he’s this mysterious guy, but he has this hero status.” Not only was the guy a hero, but he’s humble.
Unsurprisingly, there’s already an auto-tuned remix of the infamous interview and Kai and his “smash” catchphrase have already become memes in their own right. He’s all over the news and is often regarded as the Internet’s favorite new hero and friend. Despite this, Kai still lives his life like any other, as if nothing had really happened.
What was Kai’s response to becoming a recent and sudden Internet celebrity/hero? “Shock and awe.” To end his second exclusive interview with the hitchhiker, Reisbeck asked, “Anything else you would like to tell your fans?”, which Kai responded back stating, “I don’t own you. I do not have you. Please do not be obsessed. Thank you.” You got to respect this guy, and how he isn’t trying to whore himself out for another 15 minutes of fame unlike other people deemed as heroes who became e-famous from a news interview.
